Refugee Week

Following up Pawas’s post about Refugee Week, this is just a reminder that the launch event is today.

5.30pm on Monday 8th June
Chancellor’s Building Gallery

The reception is free and families are welcome!

Keele Refugee Week 2015 kicks off with a launch reception opened by Professor Nick Foskett, Keele University Vice Chancellor, and an exhibition entitled “Knitted Narratives” produced by refugee and migrant women who attend a local NGO (ASHA, Hanley).

Other events held during the week include film screenings; a photo exhibition; a fundraising event; an information session about access to higher education for asylum seekers, and other awareness raising activities; a pub quiz. Guest speakers as well as Keele-based ones will engage the audiences in numerous workshops on social networks and belonging, refugee law, refugee health professionals working in the UK, refugee experiences in camps in Jordan and Lebanon. For more info, check here: http://www.keele.ac.uk/refugeeweek/

MCC’s own event is this Thursday, in the Media Building Screening Room 1-3, and is a screening and discussion about issues of representation in the 2011 film Le Havre. Further information is here, or feel free to email myself or Pawas Bisht for further information: e.giraud@keele.ac.uk or p.bisht@keele.ac.uk
