I love to travel and explore different cultures, therefore when I was presented with the opportunity to take a spontanious trip to Amsterdam for a long weekend (Thursday – Sunday) with a couple friends, there was no way that I was going to let it pass by.
Amsterdam definitely is the place to visit if you love food, sightseeing and more food. Our three days in Amsterdam were basically spent eating and visiting Galleries.
During our stay we visited the Stedelijk museum, which specialises in contemporary and modern art & design. The main exhibition on at the time was: Mach Dich Hübsch by Isa Gengken, which was the first comprehensive retrospective of her work. The main themes within this exhibition were; modernity, the human body, the portrait, urban culture and architecture
“I always wanted to have the courage to do totally crazy, impossible and also wrong things” – Isa Genzken
Isa Genzken incorporates the use of different mediums in her work to create a contemporary feel with a variety of meanings, which may not often make sense at first glance. However it eventually creates meaning which can be quite subjective and interpreted in an array of ways.
If you ever find yourself in Amsterdam I would definitely recommend that you check out the Stedelijk museum and the many different exhibitions that it has to offer.
I also highly recommend C T Coffee & coconuts, (Make sure you get a croissant).
