Keele MCC is delighted to share news of Lord Melvyn Bragg being awarded the degree of Doctor of the University by Keele in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the popularisation of literature and the arts in the UK through his distinguished, life-long work as an award-winning author and broadcaster.
Lord Bragg was awarded the honour in the graduation ceremony held today (15 July 2016) where he also addressed the graduating students. It was an inspiring address where he encouraged the students to not be afraid of failing and pursuing work which they really wanted to do. Quoting Samuel Beckett, he advised the students: “Try. Fail. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.”
We hope that the graduating students hearing him this morning, a group which included Keele MCC students, would follow his advice and pursue their passions in their lives and careers after Keele.
Lord Bragg also gave an interview ahead of the ceremony talking about his career, the impact of Brexit for universities, and passing on his advice to the #KeeleGraduation class of 2016. The interview is available here-a very interesting and engaging conversation!
